DISTENDER was at the EGU General Assembly 2025, with multiple presentations highlighting its innovative approach to addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Joana Ferreira, Sílvia Coelho, João Basso, Hélder Relvas, Myriam Lopes, Peter Roebeling, and Ana Isabel Miranda delivered a comprehensive session titled “Air quality and health impacts of co-created climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.” The presentation introduced the audience to the DISTENDER Framework and explored:
-
The second round of Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy evaluations
-
The project’s robust evaluation methodology
-
Techniques used for assessing modellable strategies
-
Key results from the evaluation
-
Integration with the Decision Support System (DSS)
In a dedicated session, our project coordinator Roberto San Jose from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) offered a broader perspective with his talk titled “Improving understanding of interactions in climate change mitigation and adaptation: insights from three EU projects – DISTENDER, KNOWING, and NEVERMORE.” His contribution emphasized the synergies across European efforts tackling climate and environmental challenges.
Finally, Sílvia Coelho, together with Joana Ferreira, presented “How different SSPs will affect air quality and human health: The DISTENDER Project Framework,” shedding light on the projected consequences of Shared Socioeconomic Pathways on environmental and human health.
The participation at EGU 2025 marks another milestone in DISTENDER’s commitment to science-based policymaking and stakeholder engagement in climate resilience.
